Voice in Motion, Exile and Resilience
12 November – 12 December 2026 | Galerie Odile Ouizeman, Paris
As part of Photo Days 2026, International Women in Photo (IWPA) presents ‘Voices in Motion: Women Photographers, Exile and Resilience’, a group exhibition bringing together four artists whose photographic practices explore exile, memory, identity and the processes of rebuilding.
Presented at Galerie Odile Ouizeman, with the support of the Sakura Endowment Fund, the exhibition invites visitors to discover personal and collective narratives that question our relationship with belonging, territories and the connections that shape who we are.
Photographing Exile, Bringing Stories to Light
What remains of us when we leave a place behind? How do we preserve the memories, gestures and stories that connect us to a place, a family or a community? How can we rebuild a sense of belonging when borders, displacement and separation reshape our lives?
Through four distinctive photographic approaches, Voices in Motion explores exile not only as an experience of geographical displacement, but also as a profound personal, social and cultural transformation.
The works on display examine the traces left by migration, the legacies passed down through generations, individual and collective memories, and the new forms of solidarity and belonging that emerge through movement.
Here, photography becomes a space for testimony, reclamation and transmission. It brings often marginalised stories into view, challenges dominant representations and opens up a dialogue between personal experiences and contemporary issues.
Beyond borders and individual journeys, the exhibition offers a reflection on what connects us: the memories we carry, the identities we reinvent and the communities we build.
Four Photographers, Four Perspectives on Exile and Memory
Tina Massumi (Iran)
A Home Made of Us, 2023–2026
Through A Home Made of Us, Tina Massumi examines the notion of home and the human connections through which it is formed. Her work invites us to consider belonging beyond a geographical location, finding it instead in relationships, memories and shared experiences.
Val Barros (Brazil)
Colonial Phantasmagorias, 2022–2026
In Colonial Phantasmagorias, Val Barros explores the enduring traces of colonial history and their influence on contemporary memories and representations. Her project encourages reflection on historical legacies, identities and the narratives that shape our understanding of the present.
Oleñka Carrasco (Venezuela)
ASILO: Nosotros Tierra Somos, 2022–2026
In ASILO: Nosotros Tierra Somos, Oleñka Carrasco examines the relationships between exile, territory and memory. Her work explores the connections that endure with places left behind, and the ways in which displacement transforms our relationship with our origins and sense of belonging.
Myriam Cohenca (France–Palestine)
Finding Alquds, 2025–ongoing
Through Finding Alquds, Myriam Cohenca explores the relationships between memory, identity and territory. Her project reflects on the emotional, historical and symbolic ties that connect individuals to places, even when distance or borders separate them.
Giving Women Photographers a Voice
Through this exhibition, International Women in Photo continues its commitment to increasing the visibility and recognition of women photographers on the international art scene.
By bringing together artists with diverse backgrounds and complementary approaches, IWPA seeks to create a space for encounters between artworks, audiences and narratives, whilst highlighting the diversity of women’s experiences of exile and migration.
Voices in Motion thus affirms photography’s ability to go beyond documentation, becoming a means of dialogue, transmission and collective reflection.
