The International Women in Photo Award is organized by International Women In Photo Association to respond to its social commitment and the dissemination of culture among other purposes.

The International Women in Photo Association promotes women
photographers by highlighting and exposing their practices and talents to an international audience.

Its mission is to encourage and support women photographers on the path of reaffirming their personal voice and practice.

This Regulation sets out the rules for this contest. By entering the Award, participants are deemed to have read and accepted all aspects of the submissions & rules described on this page (Regulations).

If the participant does not agree to be bound by these Regulations, she is not authorized to participate in the IWPA Award. These Regulations may be updated from time to time and the latest version of these Regulations will always apply.

1_ Participants

Participation in this international competition is open to women photographers, and those who identify as women, working in any field of photography from fine arts to photojournalism or documentary. Amateurs or professionals, from any country in the world.

Minimum age is 18 years, regardless of nationality. If the participant lives in a country where legal age of majority is above 18 years, the participant will obtain the consent of a parent/guardian to participate in the IWPA Award.

3_ Award Prize

IWPA award Prize consists on a traveling exhibition through the year for the laureate, the 4 finalists and the winners of the special nominations (if decided so) in key cities around the world, in Europe, Asia and Middle East, such as Geneva, Tokyo, or Dubai.

Photography Courses from the Efti and/or Speos Photography School.

Official Calendar 2023 to be announced in last trimester 2023 of the year.

4_ Registration and Award Process

– Participant will receive an email confirming of their application

 The Finalists & the Laureate and special nomination recipients will be informed about the final results by email and announced on the website.
– Should the participant’s work be selected for the exhibition, the participant will supply to IWPA on request high-resolution files that are suitable for print.

– IWPA supports the prints, which will be printed in a professional lab with digital printing process. Dimensions can vary depending of exhibition space.

NOTE ON THE TRAVELLING EXHIBITION PRINT & SALE

Finalist/Laureate agrees on the following:

– A selection of one (1) to then (10) photographs of the photographers’ set to be printed and exhibited during the traveling exhibitions.

– The number of editions depends on numbers of locations. IWPA, its sponsors and local partners are responsible to print the editions.

– These editions can be for sale during the exhibition (with the photographer’s authorisation and agreed prices), or kept by IWPA for future exhibition purposes or destroyed.

– In case of sale, 50% of the proceeds go to the photographer and the other 50% to IWPA (who in its discretion may donate some or all of these sums to its nominated charity partner).

5_ Jury and selection process

– The organizing companies guarantee the participant fairness, good faith and loyalty of the members of the jury.

-The jury is made up of renowned professionals in the field of photography. Jury’s decision is final and shall not be challenged.

– The international jury will select 5 Finalists per IWPA edition, among them, the jury will grant one photographer, as the IWPA Laureate as well as the winners of the special nominations (if decided so)

The jury may select further finalists with a special nomination if they estimate that a project is worth it.

The Jury may select less then 5 Finalists if they estimate there are not enough works with an adequate level.

– The decision of the jury will be adopted by simple majority of its members, being able to declare the prizes abandoned if it is estimated that none of the works submitted to the contest has an adequate level.

– The jury may reject any picture if it considers that it is not artistically adequate or in breach with the Regulations.

– The photographs will be judged based on the photographic skill, artistic sensibilities, emotion, impact and originality as well as on the consistency of the approach to the themes, technical skill, own style, story telling.

– IWPA aims to announce the shortlist Finalists one month after closing of the application term. The winner and shortlisted photographers will be notified by email to the email address which they submit during registration process and published on the IWPA website and associated social media.

IWPA reserves the right to change, or modify the prize at any time before the end of the award, but will make sure to inform all Participants.

– In case of force majeure IWPA reserves the right to amend this regulation, to postpone or cancel the competition without liability to the participants.

 – Participant agrees that the content of her work complies with all applicable law and in particular: 

. The photographs do not include threatening, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, provocative, pornographic or pedophile contents, does not strike the sensibility of the minors and not incite discrimination whether based on sex, religion, nationality,  disability, sexual orientation, age or political opinion.

. The photographs do not contain any material that may constitute or encourage conduct considered a criminal offense or violate any law.

. The photograph does not infringe copyright, trademark, contract rights or any other intellectual property right of a third party or entity, does not violate the privacy rights of any person.

. Do not affect the safety or integrity of a state or territory.

. Do not incite to commit a crime or an act of terrorism.

. Does not contain disparaging or defamatory words.

. Does not otherwise breach applicable law.

–   Any deceitful statement of the participant will entail their exclusion from the award without the responsibility of the Association IWPA can be committed.

6_ Copyright

 Submitted photographs must be original materials created by the participant.

 Participants must confirm that they are the sole copyright holder of the material or have been authorized by another copyright holder to submit the material to this award.

 IWPA (and its partners) are not responsible of any royalties, fees or any other amount to a third person and can assume no responsibility and are not liable for any misuse of the participants work by third parties.

 The photographer retains copyright of the photographs. IWPA recognizes that the participant – the author of the photograph – retains full and complete ownership of the copyright in each submission.

 – All participants agree that any photographs submitted in the contest can be reproduced (citing credits of its author) and used to carry out and promote IWPA and its contests but IWPA cannot guarantee that others who copy or repost imageswill do the same and IWPA shall not be liable for the actions of any such third parties.

 – The images remain the property of the author and the author grants IWPA a royalty-free license to use, copy, reproduce, adapt and modify the images in relation to the promotion of the award during the following year(s) and for any other purposes, without the  participant being able to raise any financial claim, and to include all print, video or online media or social media. IPWA may sub-license this licence to its partners.

 – Photographers will be consulted, in case IWPA wishes to use their work in any other context.

The participant undertakes, warrants and confirms that she will not assert any moral or similar rights that she may have in relation to any original materials submitted as part of the award to prevent their public display in accordance with these Regulations.

 Participant agrees to indemnify IWPA and its partners (Indemnified Parties) against all liabilities, costs, expenses, damages and losses (including but not limited to any direct, indirect or consequential losses, loss of profit, loss of reputation and all interest, penalties and legal and other reasonable professional costs and expenses) suffered or incurred by an Indemnified Party arising out of or in connection with any claim made against an Indemnified Party for actual or alleged infringement of a third party’s intellectual property rights arising out of, or in connection with the participant’s submission or from a breach by the participant of these Regulations.

7_ Documentation

 Each applicant may submit a single application to this call. The following documentation must be attached:

 – Photographer has to specify under which theme she enters the IWPA award.

 – Each artist can participate in one category, submitting a collection or series of 10 photos.

 – Photographs must be a consistent set, meaning that images must work together as a whole and must be accompanied by a text presenting the work and a short Bio (300 words max).

 Submitted images should be in JPEG format, with a minimum of 2500 pixels in the longest dimension  at 72 dpi. Using the Adobe RGB (preferred) or SRGB color space. The weight of each file should not exceed 3 MB. The name of the author should not be included in the titles of the images or attached fields.

– All entries must be submitted via the website no later than 11.59pm (French time) on September 30st 2023. Any photos submitted after this time will not be accepted.

 – Should the participant’s work be selected for the exhibition, the participant will supply to IWPA on request high-resolution files that are suitable for print.

 – Any incomplete application will not be accepted.

In compliance with the provisions of the Law on the Protection of Personal Data and its complementary regulations, IWPA informs that the personal data provided with the participant’s request, including the email address, will be incorporated for the participant treatment to perform the actions necessary for the development of the contest; the verification that the contestants meet the requirements established in these rules to compete, and to be able to contact them if they are one of the winners in accordance with the rules of this contest.

8_Data Protection and Transfer of Image Rights

All personal information is collected for the purpose of administering your entry, and will be kept secure & confidential and is used in accordance with applicable law.

In compliance with the provisions of REGULATION (EU) 2016/679 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of April 27, 2016 relating to the protection of natural persons (“RGDP”), the owner is informed that personal data facilitated by the participants are incorporated into the corresponding ownership and responsibility file of IWPA.

Names and surnames

Email

Nationality

Location

And having obtained the consent for it, images and photographs.

IWPA also informs that these data may be published by IWPA on the internet in order to disseminate and publicize the Award.

IWPA will not collect, use or disclose personal information for purposes other than those described above, unless the participants give their consent, there is a legal obligation or a legitimate interest exists.

The personal data of the participants will be kept during the period for the duration of the process, assessment, and dissemination of the Awards.

The personal data of the partipants will be automatically kept for those who agreed to become IWPA members through the online application.

Participants can exercise the rights of access, rectification, cancellation, opposition, limitation and portability, as well as the right to withdraw the consent granted, by addressing, by any means that allows to prove the sending and receiving, to the attention of IWPA (International Women In Photo 42 rue de Tocqueville, 75017 Paris, France, or by writing an email to contact@iwpa.fr.

Additional considerations

– This Contest is subject to French law. In the event of a dispute between the Parties, arising out of or in connection with this Agreement or its subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims) then the dispute shall be referred to and finally resolved by Paris Court Jurisdiction.

The illegality of any part of Regulations shall not prejudice the enforceability of any other part, which shall be severable.

– The failure on the part of a party to exercise or enforce any right conferred upon it by these Regulations shall not be deemed to be a waiver of any such right or operate so as to prevent the exercise or enforcement of any right conferred upon the parties by these Regulations.

– These Regulations constitute the entire understanding and agreement of the parties relating to its subject matter and supersede, cancel and replace all prior agreements between IWPA and the participants which relate to the same subject matter whether written, oral, implied or would be inferred from the correspondence, oral statements or conduct of the parties.

– The participant shall not sell, assign, mortgage, charge, transfer or otherwise dispose of any of its rights or obligations under these Regulations nor will it delegate or sub-contract any of such rights or obligations without the prior written consent IWPA.

– Subject to applicable law, IWPA and its partners, will not be liable for loss of profits, revenues, or data, financial losses or indirect, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, IWPA and its partners exclude all liability of for any claims under these Regulations.
